Micro Pelletizing

In the so-called micro pelletizing, the hot melt is cut by centrically aligned knives directly after discharge from the die. Subsequently, it is air-cooled through the pneumatic conveyance. This process is bound to certain product parameters. Depending on the product, spherical pellets can be produced. Common diameters are 0.8 to 1 mm (0.03 to 0.04 inches), but in some cases a diameter of 0.5 mm (0.02 inches) can be achieved. The pellets can, for example, be filled into capsules. Typical applications are prolonged-release formulations. In this case the release speed can be specified through the pellet size. The pellets can also be coated.
